Texas Love Song
Published in Paperback by Jove Pubns (October, 1996)
Author: Jodi Thomas
Average review score:

outstanding
Jodi Thomas has a wonderful way of bringing a reader into her books. Her story lines are easy to follow, and very enjoyable. She has such a way of portraying her characters that makes them fun to read about, and you can actually picture what is going on. The way Sloan and McCall act around each other is almost comical, yet romantic at the same time. I can't help but laugh at some of the situations they put each other into, and cry at others. I have read all of Her books, and have loved every one of them. I would suggest all of her books to anyone looking for a good romance novel to read. They are not easy to find to buy, but you can find any of them in a public library. She is my favorite author, and a very sweet lady.

Could not put this good read down!!
Adventure, romance, strong characters, a story that has it all!!!!

Magical! Outstanding!!
Jodi Thomas created a lovely, unusual romance that I can't help but give Five stars to. No less would do. For the first time (as far as I know) a romance novelist has broached the subject of Galvenized Yankees, those who change from the south to the north in the midst of the war. She did a beautiful job. She tells what it must have been like for a man to be hated by the north and south alike. McCall Harrison, the heroine, is the daughter of a southerner who died during the war. Yet for the sake of the Indian children she puts aside the hatred she must feel. This is a tale of two special people falling in love in the remains of war. A half senile old woman, who maybe isn't as senile as she appears. And a special half-breed boy named Winter. This is a must read, destined for the keeper shelf.

Texas Millionaire
Published in Hardcover by Gale Group (February, 2003)
Author: Dixie Browning
Average review score:

One of Dixie Browning's most enjoyable books!
The warmth of these characters drew me in from the start. I loved both the hero and heroine, and adored the secondary character, Miss Manie. I especially liked the heroine who was smart and sassy and very honest. Good book to relax with for an evening.

Warm, witty tale told with a Southern accent.
An unlikely heroine, a storybook hero, TEXAS MILLIONAIRE has all the elements I love in a romance. Glitz and glamour are only bit players. This is a character-driven story, one I think you'll enjoy if you like warm, witty stories told with a strong Southern accent.

A terrific book for an afternoon by the pool!
Hank is an attractive Texas hero, and Callie is a refreshing young woman. Her Aunt Manie is a meddler of the most entertaining variety. This book has lots of surprises. I loved it.

Texas Outlaw
Published in Paperback by Fanfare (December, 1995)
Author: Adrienne Dewolfe
Average review score:

Great story... a fast read.
Fancy Holleday a beautiful woman who has previously lived in a whorehouse and unfortunately knows the lifestyle robs a train for some U.S. minting plates to help her boyfriend, Diego, a man she feels she loves and is her only hope for marriage and finally a decent life. Federal marshal Cord Rawlins, on the train fails to stop the heist and later catches up with her and takes her into his custody. This is the focus of this story, a lawman and his prisoner traveling to Carson City, their final destination to have her placed in jail. Being in close proximity at all times makes them both feel things they don't want to feel. I understand this was Ms. deWolfe's first book... I'm very impressed. Texas Lover, the sequel is the story about Wes, Cord's younger brother.

Bravo for Ms. DeWolfe !!!
Very good written love story and well developed characters. I'm very particular with my reading material. I found Texas Outlaw a few years ago and took a chance to buy it because my favorite authors' were not available. I'm hooked eversince, bought all her other books (Texas Lover and Texas Wildcat) but Texas Outlaw is the best of the three. Ms Dewolfe evenly went in depth with all her characters both protagonist and antagonist. Nothing is as black and white as bad man vs good guy. The most poignant is when the minor character Blisse is dying and she asked for a decent kiss from Cord, wow... both Cord and Fancy earned my admiration. I wish Ms DeWolfe wrote more than just the Rawlins Brothers series.

Another author to add to my "must buy" list
I thoroughly enjoyed Adrienne deWolfe's book, Texas Outlaw. After writing this, I'm ordering the other two available titles. Characters were truly likeable and believable. I am sorry Fancy had to have such a tough life before the story began. Usually, I prefer the hero of the story to "deflower" the heroine--but hey, it all worked out and made the story more realistic. Cheers to a new favorite

Texas Passions
Published in Mass Market Paperback by Kensington Pub Corp (March, 1999)
Author: Rosanne Bittner

texas passions
I loved the book, haven't read the first one yet, but will look for it when I go to a used-book store, since it is out of stock on amazon.com. Has another book been written after this, maybe about Ken and Jenny's story? The way Texas Passions ended, there is always hope for another one to follow. I feel I would have done for the bad guys exactly like John & Tess did, she certainly did her part to rescue her babies.

Excellent Read with Non-Stop Action/Suspense, A Great Sequel
Once again Rosanne Bittner has created a excellant read that you can't put down. For those who haven't read the first book- Texas Embrace you'll want to read it when you finish this one (if not before). This is a great love story about John Hawkins & his wife Tess. But also it is about a parents great love for their children and what each is willing to endure for the other. It is a real tear-jerker (happy tears) along with heart stopping suspense and a good old fashion hero & heroine thrown in to melt your heartstrings. It will keep you up all night reading and then some. If you've never been a reader before, this book (or any of Ms. Bittner's writings) will make you a dedicated fan (of both the author & subject matter) for Life!!

AN ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC READ!!
When I purchased TEXAS PASSION, I did not know it was a sequel. It is the continuing story of ex-Texas Ranger John Hawkins and Tessa Reeves. In TEXAS PASSION, John and Tessa have been happily married for nine years and have two wonderful children, Texas and Honor. Their happiness is shattered when an old enemy escapes from prison and teams up with unknown enemy determined to take revenge on the Hawkins. Their children are kidnapped and their old friend, Ken is gravely wounded while trying to protect them. The chase is on and we see John turn from a peaceful rancher to the feared and deadly warrior he once was. John, Tessa and their children struggle through many hardships before they are reunited. The revenge that John takes on those who threatened and hurt his children is brutal and relentless. I couldn't help cheering him on. The family's reunion was heartwarming. I loved the Hawkins so much that I ordered TEXAS EMBRACE, the story telling how it all began. I can't wait. This was a glorious book and I recommend it. You'll love it. Trust me!

Texas Proud

TEXAS PROUD IS WONDERFUL!!!
This is Noble Vincente's story and the prequel to his sister, Sabor Vincente's story in RIDE THE WIND. Rachel belives that Noble killed her father, and when he returns to town, she is laying in wait for him. She loves him desperately, but she believes she has to avenge her father's death. What a wonderful story--it opens with Rachel's gun trained on the unsuspecting Noble. I read it twice and will probably read it again. After you read this you will want to go on and read RIDE THE WIND which is equally wonderful!!!

Constance is a Master at storytelling
I've read all of Constances books and they are all wonderful. this one is no different. Noble and Rachel make a perfect couple. this one truly pulls at the strings of your heart, and leaves you with happiness, tears, and longing. It is books like these that allow you to believe that Love truly does exist in a beautiful form.

As usual Constance outdoes herself
I have read each and every one of her book. each one is a masterpiece. Texas Proud is no different! Rachel and Noble are perfect for each other. this is the kind of Romance that pulls at your heart strings, and makes you believe that such a love truly does exist.

The Texas Republic
Published in Paperback by Trafford (July, 2002)
Author: Joe L. Blevins
Average review score:

Based on true stories of actual characters and events
The Texas Republic by Joe L. Blevins is an informed and informative historical novel of the founding of Texas as told from the eyewitness perspective of Andrew, a freed slave who served as a soldier in the Texas Army. After meeting with Sam Houston to win a land grant, Andrew is wounded and his wife killed in ambush by robbers. A Cherokee hunting party finds Andrew, saving him from death and adopting him as a member of their tribe. Andrew marries Say-te-Qua, a Cherokee woman and the tribe's dream interpreter. When Sam Houston asks the Cherokee to scout for the Texas army, Andrew, having learned to read and write by copying letters from an old Bible that he had found, documents his experiences and observations in a personal journal. Andrew and his brother-in-law Red Bird assisted Sam Houston to broker a peace treaty when an Indian War broke out in Texas, records the events of Texas as a Mexican state, the decade of Texas as a free republic, and the annexation of Texas as the 28th state of the United States of America. This engaging and highly recommended story is based on true stories of actual characters and events, and is enhanced with selected illustrations; a replica of a letter Sam Houston wrote to Caddo Chief Bintah inviting him to the 1843 Great Council; and a "Glossary of Unfamiliar Words".

Great book.
This one of the most interesting books I have read on Texas history. It was a great idea to write it from this previously under reported perspective.

I highly recommend this book.

The Texas Republic
This book has wonderful stories and drawings that help tell the interesting story of Texas, and the United States. The book tells many good historical events, yet it tells interesting details that most books do not talk about, or begin to say. It gives personal dialogue and insight into historical events, and persons. There are several maps, and a letter written by Sam Houston to a Caddo chief. It gives good insight to the attitude of the Red River Tribes, and insight into the amazing personality, Sam Houston. There is even a dictionary for people that do not speak "Texan." This book does what some books fail to do: it tells a logical, and understandable story from an eye-witness perspective. It was most enjoyable. I gave it as a gift to a number of friends. My personal copy has been borrowed by several persons, and it has been well read. You would like it too!

Texas Sheikhs: His Innocent Temptress (Harlequin American Romance, No 869)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (April, 1901)
Author: Kasey Michaels
Average review score:

Book 1 of series begins with unusual twist to love story
This story was well written and had some interesting twists to it. I felt like I knew the main characters Alex and Hannah. The love story starts out on an unusual twist but you feel compelled to keep reading to find out how the story ends. It leads in to the second book of the Texas Sheikhs series "His Arranged Marriage" by Tina Leonard. I highly recommend this book!

A Real Hoot!
Kasey Michaels offers us another great read in this Harl. American series. Alex is a wonderful hero and his devotion to Hannah is well drawn out. The development of his character and the transformation of Hannah is enchanting. I read this book after reading the second in the series by Tina Leonard and I am looking forward to the rest of the series.

EXCELLENT! Kasey Michaels is awesome!
If you like Texas books, a hunky prince in hiding, and a strong woman to tame him, you should definitely read this book! The first in a series of Texas Sheiks, Kasey's characters are magical and different--as usual! You will fall in love with Hannah-Banana . . . it's a very touching story. I picked this book up because I'd read other books of hers, and I was not disappointed.

Texas Sky
Published in Hardcover by Univ of Texas Press (October, 1998)
Author: Wyman Meinzer
Average review score:

beyond words
When I received this book as a gift and initially thumbed through the pages I was in awe. Though I was familiar with the work of Wyman Meinzer and was already a fan of his, I really didn't beleive that anyone would ever have the talent to put a book like this together. Truthfully, many of the photos made me swallow hard with emotion because the images elicited such special feelings. Though the photos could easily stand alone, the quotes are very well chosen and compliment each image well. John Graves is wonderful of course. When I escape to Texas Sky, I think about the pure exhiliration in being able to stand at each of the places in the precious few moments when the sky was so spectacular. Have you ever regretted not having your camera in your hand, or perhaps ran to get it but were too late, or even snapped the shot only to realize later that you didn't get it right? Well, all of our missed shots are captured flawlessly by Wyman Meinzer in Texas Sky. The only disappointment was that Mr. Meinzer didn't write more. Just read the preface, page 61 or the acknowledgment, you'll want more too. In my opinion he is the photographer by whom all others should be judged and the writer all writers should strive to be like. I will forever be envious. Everyone should own this book. PS I just got Texas Seasons...one of his most recent books....awesome again, Wyman.

Such art deserves it's own easel.
Texas is my home. One doesn't have a home somewhere in Texas. Once you claim it the entire state is home. I wasn't certain exactly why that was true, until I received this book as a gift today. The Texas state of mind has as it's roof the Texas Sky. Wyman Meinzer has captured through his impeccable lenses the beauty that makes us hurry home. It is a book with a catch in it's throat on every page. I'm purchasing a new easel to do it honor.

Beautiful Book
I bought this book for my father, who is a friend and fan of the photographer. Now I have to go buy one for myself! The pictures in this book are incredible, and truly capture our magnificent Texas sky. Way to go Wyman!

Texas Treasure by Betty Brooks
This book was great, I'm hopeing there will be another book about this family. I'm wanting to know about Blake and Velvet Johnson. Please Betty Brooks make this a series.

Couldn't put it down!
This is only the second book I have read by this author, but it certainly won't be the last. I also hope she continues the story of the family of brothers in the book along with the heroine finding her sisters. I very much enjoyed the personality of the heroine, not a clinging vine or damsel in distress that depends on someone else to save her.

An engaging heartfelt book
I have read several books by this author over the years. All I can say is that she really outdid herself on this book. I am sincerely hoping that this will be a start of a series of books about this family. This book deals with the aftermath of the Civil War and the devastation/destruction that followed. She is very detailed in her facts and interwoven in these facts is the gripping and turbulent story of two young people and their families. I read the book in day and a half. If you like this time setting then I would HIGHLY recommend this book.
